The Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) is a public institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Its main responsibility is to interpret the national education policy and develop curricula, syllabi, and learning materials to ensure quality education at all levels. These levels include pre-primary, primary, secondary, and teacher education institutions.
TIE was established by Act No. 13 of 1963. It was originally known as the Institute of Education and operated as a unit of the University of Dar es Salaam. Its primary role was to coordinate teacher education programs at the university and support the Ministry of Education in improving teaching and learning in schools and teacher training colleges.
Main Functions of TIE
Developing and designing curricula for pre-primary, primary, secondary schools, and teacher training colleges.
Providing training to both pre-service and in-service teachers to improve curriculum implementation and overall performance.
Ensuring quality assurance in education by evaluating teaching methods, learning objectives, and educational materials.
Offering professional advice to the government through the Ministry and other education stakeholders to improve education at different levels.
